Built because we could not hire the people we needed.
CyberX Mentor began in 2016 in a single rented classroom in Gulshan, run by a security lead who had spent three years failing to fill a vacancy. The conclusion was uncomfortable but simple: in Bangladesh the practical skills did not exist in sufficient quantity, so they would have to be built rather than bought.
From one classroom to four divisions.
The first cohort had eleven students and one instructor. What made it work was not the curriculum — that was rewritten four times in the first year — but the decision that nobody would teach a subject they were not actively practising. That rule still holds. Every trainer on the roster carries live consulting work, and the labs they set on a Saturday are frequently derived from something they found in a client network the week before.
The consultancy division grew out of the training, not the other way around. Organisations that sent staff to courses began asking whether we would look at their infrastructure. By 2018 that work was large enough to need its own team, and it now funds the parts of the institute that do not pay for themselves.
Research came next, for a related reason. Graduates who wanted to go further had nowhere local to do serious work, and the ones who went abroad rarely came back. The research division exists to make the first publication possible without leaving the country — and the scholarship division exists for the students for whom leaving is the right answer.

Our mission
To build practical cybersecurity capability in Bangladesh — by training practitioners who can do the work on day one, securing the institutions the country depends on, and opening research and international pathways to people who would otherwise never get near them.
Our vision
A Bangladesh where organisations no longer import security expertise for work that local professionals are entirely capable of doing, and where a researcher in Dhaka can publish at the same standard as one in Delft or Toronto without relocating to do it.
Four rules we do not bend
Practitioners only
Nobody teaches a subject they are not actively practising. The rule has cost us instructors and it is not negotiable.
Honest assessment
We tell applicants their real odds, clients their real exposure, and students when their work is not good enough yet. It is less pleasant and considerably more useful.
Finish the job
A course ends with a deliverable a client would accept. A research track ends with a submitted manuscript. An audit ends with a re-test. Not before.
Local capability
Every engagement ends with the client's own people able to maintain what we built. Dependency is a failure mode, not a business model.
Ten years, four divisions.
Each division was added because the one before it created a demand we could not meet.
One classroom, eleven students
Founded in Gulshan as a training centre with a single course: network security fundamentals.
First corporate cohorts
Three banks send staff for in-house delivery. The live cyber range is built to support it.
Consultancy division opens
Client demand for assessment work reaches the point of needing a dedicated team.
Online delivery at scale
Live online cohorts launched during the pandemic; intake more than doubles and never returns to the old level.
Research division founded
Dr. Elena Russo joins to lead the AI security research programme. First student paper accepted the following year.
Scholarship support formalised
What had been informal mentoring becomes a structured division with dedicated advisors.
Four divisions, one pipeline
4,200 professionals trained, 180 organisations secured, 96 papers published, 330 funded places won.
How the organisation is arranged
Flat by design. Four divisions report into the executive team; division leads carry delivery responsibility and a live caseload rather than a purely managerial role.

Things people ask first
Do I need a technical background to start?
Are the online courses recorded?
Do you guarantee job placement?
Can my organisation book a private cohort?
What happens if my research does not get accepted?
Do you charge a success fee for scholarships?
Visit the campus before you commit.
We run an open session most months — see the range, meet the instructors, and ask the questions a brochure will not answer.
